Travel information to the Great Glen and Glen Spean

The Great Glen is located on the main route from Glasgow to Inverness known as the A82. The Glen Spean area is located along the A86 which can be acessed from the A9 when coming south from the Spey valley area.

Travel to the Great Glen by road
If you are travelling from the south, the road system is straightforward with the southern end of the Great Glen roughly 110 miles north of Glasgow. There is a regular time-tabled bus service which operates all year round and also has a convenient pick-up/stop at Glasgow Airport for travellers coming into Scotland by air.

If you are travelling to Inverness first, you enter the Great Glen just south of Inverness at the northern shore of Loch Ness. The journey to Spean Bridge is about 58 miles and will take about an hour, although if you are exploring too, allow 3-4 hours.

Travel by train to Glen Spean and the Great Glen
There is a train service to Roybridge and Spean Bridge which comes from Glasgow and London in the south. You can also get on a train from Fort William to Spean Bridge or Roybridge. The link will take you to Fort William train station page on our Fort William and Glen Nevis site.

Travel by Air to the Great Glen and Glenspean
Visitors travelling by air to Scotland can choose between Glasgow, Prestwick and Edinburgh in the south,  Inverness airport in the north and Aberdeen in the east. Once on the ground you can rent a car or arrange for a local Fort William taxi firm to pick you up from the airport and bring you back to your accommodation.
